Inclusion and Access to Sport and Recreation for Persons with Disabilities

On Wednesday 22nd November 2017 several of our employees attended the Inclusion and Access to Sport and Recreation meeting that was held at the Dr. Carson Marion Murray Centre, Springhill.

The purpose:

A partnership of recreation, sport, health and education representatives are looking to better understand what recreation and sport supports (programs, policies, practices, partnerships) exist for persons with disabilities in Cumberland County, Colchester County, East Hants and Pictou County. Our goal is to create a better understanding of the current situation in order to then focus on ways to collectively improve inclusive and accessible supports in this area.

The focus group wanted input from persons with lived experiences related to access and inclusion by asking questions and getting insight into What’s working? What’s not? And how can we improve things together?

By participating in this focus group consultation, those involved are helping to shape the next steps for this regional collaborative.

All those who attended said it was great opportunity to express their thoughts on the current state of recreation and sports supports currently available and what they would like to see in the future.
