Update to Family Members:
Message re: Sunset Community’s COVID-19 Pandemic Response
As you are aware, the COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly and we are now seeing community spread. We want to reassure you that we are working daily to keep residents and staff safe. Our Sunset Community programs and residences have been closed to all visitors since March 13th, 2020. As well, we have stopped any non-essential community outings for our clients. There have been many additional activities provided in-center, as well as education and support to help everyone understand the reasons why these restrictions are necessary.
We have implemented many new measures and processes over the past month, examples of preventative measures in place include, but are not limited to: increasing our cleaning and sanitation practices, education to all employees and clients regarding social distancing, hand hygiene and proper cough and sneeze etiquette. Staff have also been educated on and supported to implement infection control practices that are aimed at decreasing both the incidence and spread of COVID-19 amongst our clients.
We have limited activities and dining to each separate cove area, and have staff working in one specific area to help prevent the spread of germs throughout. There has been an increased focus on continuing to hire and orientate new staff in all departments to ensure adequate staffing levels are in place.
All clients have been screened twice daily for elevated temperatures and other COVID-19 and ILI symptoms for several weeks. Additionally, employees are being screened daily for symptoms, and temperatures are being checked upon arrival to work. Any ill staff members are staying home. A separate Isolation Area has been created for any individuals with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 to reduce the chances of the illness spreading to unaffected clients and to ensure clients receive any extra supportive care that may be required as they recover from their illness.
Effective April 14th, all employees will be provided with masks each day, as has been implemented in Acute Care and Long-term Care. This measure will help prevent the spread of the virus. As of today, there are no residents or staff of the Sunset Community who have tested positive for COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 902-243-2571 ext. 222 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional updates will be provided on our website www.sunsetcommunity.ca
